AoA, everyone! For the year 2023, the German Embassy in Islamabad and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) are offering DAAD Germany Scholarships for Pakistani students for Ph.D Research Assistant, and Exchange (MPhil/Master Degree holders, Ph.D. Students, Post Doctorate) in these three types of programs. After reading this you will be able to understand How to apply for DAAD Scholarships also you will be able to understand the tips and tricks given by DAAD scholarship Alumni.
The following 03 kinds of programs are funded by DAAD & the German Embassy in Pakistan.
- PhD in Germany
- 03 to 06 Months Short-Term Research visits for Master’s Degree Holders, current Ph.D. Students in Pakistan, Post Doctoral Seekers to German Universities.
- One Year Long Term Duration Research Visits for Master’s Degree Holders and current Ph.D. Students in Pakistan to German Universities.
The above three categories are explained below one by one.
One of the most important requirements along with other requirements is that you need a German professor who is ready to supervise you under any one of the three modalities and also a research proposal developed under the proposed German supervisor.
Now, this year, I want you to contact them in the best possible way. So, as applications are open now, you should be ready to apply with their consent along with the proposal that you will develop with them. I will give you the links below to these scholarships so that when you contact professors, you can mention them so that they will understand what program you are applying for. But you must not start bombarding professors’ emails with low-quality emails. So, when they see your emails, they reject you immediately. See this if you don’t know how to win scholarships?
Moreover, it has a compulsory requirement for IELTS, so one must do IELTS with a band of at least 6.5.
Now, you have to prepare and fulfill all other requirements (with the help of the following website) and apply for this opportunity which is for us (Pakistanis).
The above three programs offered by germen embassy in Pakistan are discussed in detail one by one.

A few major points were suggested by Sania Arif, (The Alumni of DAAD Scholarships).
1- find a German supervisor (To find a supervisor/professor in your field of interest is so simple. You just need to put your field of interest and country name)
For Example: If you are interested in a master/PhD program in the field of “Bio-diversity”. You just need to open chrome/google search: Bio-diversity professor in Germany. You will have many supervisors. Read their profile if you think this one is the best to match your interest in work. email (available on professor profile) him/her and show your interest. If you don’t know how to write an email to a professor read this guideline:
- Get an acceptance letter from any professor.
- Finalize your research proposal with your German supervisor
- Go to the DAAD portal website (google).
- start your application (how to fill out the form ..guidance videos can be found on the DAAD Pakistan Facebook page or youtube).
- IELTS submission was relaxed last year by giving applicants more time and they submitted results after the daad application submission.
